Karen HinesBorn in 1963, Karen Hines is an actor, writer and director most known for the creation of the character Pochsy and the subsequent series of plays involving this character. Unlike some artists who draw on their personal lives in order to create their art work, Hines draws upon North American culture and expresses her opinion about the direction in which she feels contemporary culture is headed. She uses the technique bouffon and her character Pochsy is therefore hyper-feminine, although Hines considers herself more of a cultural critic than a feminist. As such, Hines often makes direct references to current magazine ads in her performances. Hines has recently participated in the Women In the Directors Chair Workshop at Banff. She is working on a feature film script, Crazy like a Girl, and is also story consulting on two television shows for CTV and Showcase. In addition to her work on film, she is also working on a book Red Light. Bibliography Awards Submitted by bill on Mon, 12/07/2009 - 19:57. Works in the Archive |
