Lorna Crozier

images3.jpg

Born in 1948 in Swift Current, Saskatchewan, Lorna Crozier grew up in a sports-enthusiastic community, where she never considered the possibility that she would grow up to become a prominent poet. She graduated university in 1969 and became a high school English teacher and guidance counselor. Her first published piece of poetry, however, inspired her to continue writing, and since then has published many collections of poetry.

Crozier’s poetry often explores themes related to family, spirituality, attachment, and bereavement. Her style is lyrical and graceful, and she often invokes a slight feminist twist in her poetry. Her diction is often direct and biting as she explores human psychology. The Canadian landscape figures into her poetry, and she also writes about Canadian historical figures.

In addition to writing poetry, Crozier returns to her teaching and mentoring roots, having worked as a writer-in-residence at the Cypress Hills Community College and the University of Toronto. She leads various poetry workshops, and has also given benefit readings for charitable organizations. She currently serves as Chair in the writing department at Victoria University.
